Salsa Por Favor has closed its Wayland location at 135 N. Main St. after being in business for two years.
Billed by Townbroadcast as Wayland’s first authentic Mexican restaurant downtown in more than 25 years, Salsa Por Favor opened in 2020 in the building that for many years was Brooks Hardware and most recently Cindi’s Boutique. Cochran acknowledged that the Covid-19 health crisis would present a challenge, but the restaurant apparently couldn’t recover from it.
“We are working hard to provide another way to serve our good food,” said Maria Cochran, co-owner. “We are still doing caterings and special events around the area. Please check social media for updates on future events.”
“Salsa Por Favor,” is Spanish for “Salsa, Please,” was different from other local eateries that served Mexican fare on the side. Cochran is a native of Mexico. She said she originally planned for parking in the back and a full menu, sit-down restaurant, but most of its business was takeout.
Just one building north of Salsa Por Favor on North Main Street was where Rosita’s Restaurant opened in the early 1990s, and it was reported to have done a brisk business, but it was sold after a dispute with the city about use of the upstairs.
