Round two of grievances by food service workers against the Wayland Union Schools was held Monday night in a work session in front of the Board of Education.

The board was presented with three grievances by UNISERV Director Tom Greig, a former Wayland High School teacher, during a regular board meeting May 11. Three more grievances were presented May 18 at the administration building.

The second set of grievances were charges that overtime pay was miscalculated, that there was misuse and shortage of substitutes and non-posting of positions significantly different from previous jobs.

All six grievances had been denied by Wayland Superintendent Norm Taylor.

The first three grievances were complaints about the school district’s increasing use of a third party for food service and concessions at athletic events, reducing employee hours on half days without 30 days prior notice, and food service employees being required to provide extra meals for catering during regular work hours.

The school board has agreed to schedule a meeting to handle all six grievances now that they have been aired.
