The Gun Plain and Martin fire departments early Thursday morning were summoned to the scene of a jackknifed semi truck-trailer on the U.S.-131 expressway at 112th Avenue.
Authorities said some items being carried by the semi spilled on to the freeway in the southbound lanes. The incident occurred on the northbound part of the highway.
The expressway was closed shortly after the accident, which took place at just after 3 a.m. Closure was from Exit No. 51 to Exit No. 55.
The driver of the semi, a man in his 50s was injured, with possible broken ribs and knee injury.
The trailer was separated from the cab and about 20 gallon of diesel fuel spilled onto the highway
Another semi-truck came along afterward and struck the first semi that had jackknifed.
Normal traffic was restored early Thursday morning.
