Motorcyclist killed in crash at Wayland exit on U.S.-131

A car vs. motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon near the southbound Wayland exit of U.S.-131 expressway took the life of a 72-year-old Scotts man.
Troopers from the Wayland post of Michigan State Police said a car was slowing down for backed-up traffic when it was struck from behind by the motorcycle, the driver, Norman Charles Mills, 72, of Scotts, for which was then thrown from his vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until family is notified.

Troopers said the victim was wearing a helmet.

The person in the car was not hurt.

Wayland ambulance personnel were performing CPR on the man at the scene, supported by Wayland and Yankee Springs firefighters.
Traffic was rerouted off U.S.-131, but there were delays on 10th Street and 13th Street as alternative routes.
Yankee Springs/Wayland Fire Department officials said the crash site was cleared for regular traffic use just before 6 p.m.
