Lorna Douglas of Wayland died Friday, July 28, at the age of 92.
Lorna met her husband and soulmate Roger at the young age of 13, and they were happily married for 53 years. Roger and Lorna were known for their playful spirit. Roger was lucky enough to catch her attention by throwing peanuts at her shoulder during a game they both attended.
When not by Roger’s side, Lorna transported special needs children to and from the school where she helped as a teacher’s aide. Lorna also worked for a chiropractor and an insurance office.
Lorna was happiest watching her family doing the things they loved, from football games to horse shows, front yard barbecues, and birthday parties.
She is survived by her children Diana Lynn (Rick) Snyder and Brian (Jeanette) Douglas. Lorna’s happiest moments were with her grandchildren Tracy (Brian) Wnuk, Shannon (Bryan) Dockter, Jesse (Alexandra) Snyder; great-grandchildren Cole (Amanda) Wnuk, Alli (Trevor) Humphrey, Lee Jr. (Madie) Misak, Emily Dockter, Aleigha Snyder, Douglas Dockter; great-great-granddaughter, Cora Humphrey; and two little great-great-grandchildren, Baby Boy Misak and Baby Girl Wnuk, who are on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents Clifford and Cecil Averill; sisters Opal (Kenneth) Hendrikson, Dorothy (Vern) McCormick, Janet (Leon) Perkins; sisters-in-law Anne (Ken) Jensen and Marie Frank.
A time to visit with family and celebrate Lorna’s life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Kubiak-Cook Wayland Chapel, 312 N. Main St.
