Hermina “Mimi” Vanden Berg, age 79, died Monday, Nov. 7, at home in Dorr.
Mimi was born in Elst, Netherlands. She immigrated to the United States in 1958 and became a U.S. citizen. Mimi survived occupied Holland during WWII.
She later attended school at Grand Rapids Junior College, where she trained as a registered nurse, later working at both Butterworth Hospital and Pine Rest. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, golf, and especially her family. She was a member of Dorr Christian Reformed Church for more than 50 years.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jim Vanden Berg; daughters Lisa Cooke, Rachel (Dave Burt) Cooke, Connie (Gerrit) Sterk; sons Gerry (Brandy) Cooke, Jim (Terri) Vanden Berg; brothers Leonard (Lois) Esselink, Evert (Sue) Esselink; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerard D. Cooke; and parents Klaas and Lena Esselink.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Dorr Christian Reformed Church, 4220 18th St., with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
In memory of Mimi and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
