Service later for longtime Kelloggsville teacher, coach

Gordon Van Domelen died Saturday, Sept. 2, at the age of 90.

Gordon graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College, Michigan State University – where he earned his teaching certificate – and the University of South Dakota – where he received his master’s degree in mathematics. He taught for 30 years at Kelloggsville High SchooI, where he coached football and basketball.

He was a member of Gun Lake Community Church. Gordon was a proud member of the Michigan State Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Van Domelen; children Timothy (Rosemary) Van Domelen, Thomas (Candee) Van Domelen, and Jeffrey Van Domelen; grandchildren Sarah Van Domelen, Julie Van Domelen (Scott Fleming), Genevieve Van Domelen (Drew Nelson), Christopher Van Domelen, Jonathan (Sarah) Van Domelen, and Kathryn (Kyle) Ritsema; great-grandchildren George Fleming, Juniper Van Domelen, and Avery Ritsema.

A gathering to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held at a later date.
