Clifford Lee Packer, age 86, died Tuesday at Byron Center Manor.
Cliff was born on April 24, 1931, in Hilliards, to Harold and Pauline Packer. He grew up in Hopkins and was a graduate of Hopkins High School in 1949. He served our country in the United States Navy for 22 years.
Cliff married Dolores “Sissy” Packer, on July 12, 1952. Together they lived and traveled to many places in the United States and Europe during Cliff’s military career, eventually settling at his parents’ centennial farm in Hopkins.
He is survived by his daughters, Candy Willett and Jill Toombs; grandchildren Ashley Willett(Moni Laube), Drew (Kendra) Willett, Kayleigh Meyering, Kristen (Joshua) Eavey, Kara (Jacob) Brinker; four great-grandchildren with identical twin grandsons expected in the coming weeks, and his special friend, Cleo Chrisman.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Packer, and parents Harold and Pauline Packer.
According to his wishes, visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Dorr, 4330 18th St., Sunday, Feb. 18. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Dorr.
In honor of Cliff and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VFW – Wayland Post, the American Legion or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A great man who served his nation for over two decades. Our nation is a better place because of him. Thank you sir for your service.
