Service will be Saturday for former Joe’s Grocery co-owner

Donna Jean Panyrek, age 98, of Gun Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Donna and husband Joe opened Joe’s Grocery at “Joe’s Corner Gun Lake” in 1946. The site became a landmark in the area before becoming a combination gas station and fast-foor restaurant.

She is survived by her children Jim Panyrek, Dorothy (Norman) Seger and Jo Anne Belka; grandchildren Michael Seger, Susan (Scott) Campbell and Robert Seger; great-grandsons, Tim Campbell, Matt Campbell and Jack Seger; her special niece Dorothy Stark and nephew Louis Gula, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of William and Ila Rewa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Panyrek.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Gun Lake, 159 131st Ave. Wayland, with Fr. Robert Creagan celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday from at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Wayland with a 7 p.m. Rosary.
