Services Wednesday for businessman, bus driver John Lynema

John Lynema, age 96 of photo_20150912_WM0048399_0_lynema_photo_20150912Shelbyville, died Saturday, September 12, at Thornapple Manor. John was a long time farmer in the Shelbyville community. He was a custodian and bus driver at the Wayland Schools and ran the Bradley Phillips 66 Station for several years. John is a member of the Martin Reformed Church.
He is survived by his daughters: Janice and Elmer Derks and Bonnie and Paul Schiedel; grandchildren: Jeff (Stephanie) Derks, Jim (Nichole) Derks, Jason (Helen) Derks, Amy (Jonathan) Kalkman, and Eric Schiedel (girlfriend Carey Campbell); great-grandchildren: Caleb, Alexis, Marijke, Sophia, Emily, and Megan; his sisters: Esther Schaafsma and Betty Earle; his sister-in-law Bertha Lynema; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bertha (Shafer), his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Martin Reformed Church, 1073 W. Allegan, Martin. Pastor Mark Heijerman will be officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.15,  at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, Wayland and again at 10 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayland, at 2 p.m.
