Seventeen WHS graduating seniors earn better than 4.0 GPAs

WHS Summa Cum LaudeThe Wayland High School Class of 2015 will graduate later this month and 17 of its members have achieved top academic honors.

Seventeen seniors share the honor of “Summa Cum Laude,” earning better than a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. They are Emily Arendsen, Josh Armstrong, Kayl Black, Hunter Brown, Shanille Commons, Katelyn Drummond, Jessie Foster, Haley Holtz, Presley Hudson, Amanda Kinney, Matthew Luce, Zach Zyp, Caroline Poirier, Danielle Potter, Shane Reed, Morgan Winger and Rachel Zywiczynski.

Twenty students received “Magna Cum Laude” status for earning a 3.8 to 3.9 GPA and 35 received “Cum Laude” with a 3.5 to 3.7 GPA.

The class motto this year is “Each of us has different talents, different dreams and different destinations, but we all have the power to make a new tomorrow.”

The class song is See You Again by Wiz Khalifa, and the class poem is It’s Right Here written by senior Megan Berg.

Wayland High School’s annual graduation ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the stadium (weather permitting) at 870 E. Superior St., in Wayland. In the event of rain or inclement weather, graduation exercises will be held in the main gym with overflow seating and a live video feed in the Wayland Union Fine Arts Center.
