Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Klein will be in the Martin Public Schools as their resource officer when students arrive back in school on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
Klein is a graduate of Bryant Center High School in Livonia, which is in the Detroit area. He attended Kellogg Community College where he earned an associate’s degree; and then continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University.
Before going into law enforcement, he worked in state and local levels of government, which included working as a legislative assistant to State Rep. Michael Callton in the Michigan Legislature and in community development for the City of Hastings.
Klein has been with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department for six months, during which time he completed his training as a deputy and then went to Basic School Resource Officer training. Altogether, he’s been in law enforcement for six years.
He and his wife, Megan Lavell, director of the Thornapple Arts Council, have a son and a daughter and live in Hastings.
We have known Alan and Megan for many years. He is going to do a great job.
