One item dominating discussion at Wednesday night’s Martin Township Board meeting was the situation at East Martin Cemetery on 8th Street.
Possible solutions were discussed to apparent cemetery shifting and map layout.
“This map is something to look at, but it’s not what’s out there,” said Supervisor Glenn Leep.
The Board ultimately decided to acquire a metal detector for the cemetery sexton, and will work to produce a new map.
Allegan County Commissioner Don Black spoke to the board about a potential county-wide law enforcement millage on the 2018 election ballot and the confusion in Dorr Township about recycling rates.
JC Wheeler Library sent community member Jill Yowler to give an update. Yowler thanked the board for the newly paved parking lot. She also shared that the library is teaming up with the elementary school to operate a mobile library during the summer.
John Schipper, a member of the Martin Fire Department, reported that the B93 Birthday Bash event ran smoothly with no major incidents. He also shared his observation that attendance was lower than previous years.
The board approved payment of bills and minor budget fixes. Township Clerk Rachelle Smit ended the meeting by noting that she will take over cleaning responsibilities at the Township Hall.
