The Martin Township Board dealt with ongoing issues with shifting cemeteries at its regular meeting Wednesday night accepting a $4,900 bid from Property Revolution, formerly CNC Lawncare, to construct a retaining wall at one of the problem sites.

Supervisor Glenn Leep said he met with Property Revolution Monday at the cemetery to discuss the project which is planned for this coming June.

In other business:

• Sarah Lynema, representing the Wayland Area Emergency Services (WAEMS) Board, reported that things were busier in 2017 than the previous year. The year 2017 saw eight more calls in Martin Township than in 2016.

• Fire Chief Earl Wykstra reported that Engine 12 had some maintenance done, a pump was replaced and it actually lasted longer than expected.

• The board reviewed the recycling contract with Republic Waste Services and noted that recyclables have been flying out of trucks. Members of the public who are concerned or notice these events should contact the board so they can relay concerns directly to Republic. The 2018 contract with Republic Waste for household recycling was approved.

• Board members discussed the township hall expansion. Clerk Rachelle Smit noted that a preliminary design can be expected “really soon.”
