Martin girls captured their second win in three tries this season Tuesday night with a 51-33 triumph over Galesburg-Augusta.

The Lady Clippers accomplished the feat despite missing a couple of regulars and suiting up only seven players and bringing up Kyia Bozzo from the junior varsity to help.

Martin struggled to a 27-21 advantage in the first half, but then opened things up to 43-29 in the third period.

Coach Ben Schipper said, “Tonight was a fantastic effort! Despite our low numbers, we battled one possession at a time. Galesburg tried to zone us and Makala Goddard and Gracie Shettler buried threes all night long.”

Goddard scored 15 points on five threes. Shettler, coming off an astonishing 30-point performance in the first half Friday against West Michigan Aviation Academy, scored a game-high 18 points with two threes and several mid-range pull ups.

“I was very happy with the way Maddy Bogdan was aggressive scoring nine points and how hard Lynsey Jager was crashing the offensive glass,” the coach added. “Jenna Marsman played great minutes in an expanded role tonight, Samantha Stone gave us a good effort and freshman Avery Jager got her first career start.”
