Snow drifts cause Wayland, Hopkins school closings

It was somewhat of a surprise Tuesday morning when the Hopkins and Wayland school districts canceled classes for the day because of the poor conditions of roads. Martin was on a two-hour delay. There was no significant accumulation of snowfall in the previous 24 hours, but winds reaching as high as 45 mph caused serious drifting on roads, particularly south of Wayland. This means that Hopkins already has six days off this winter season and the statewide limit is approaching.
