Wayland High SchoSyd Urben and trophyol sophomore Sydney Urben Saturday was runner-up in the state Division 2 individual bowling championship tournament.

Urben lost to state champ Hannah Ploof of Flint Kearsley 385-336 in the finals. She had defeated Madchen Breen of Warren Regina in the semifinals 389-302, Alexxa Flood of Kearsley 350-348 in the quarterfinals and Kendall Herron of Tecumseh 342-338 in the first round.

Wayland boys’ bowling coach Sherry Miklusicak posted that Urben qualified for the championship round of 16 by taking third place in the initial competition. She rolled an 1157 to keep going on to match play, according to coach Bill Holbrook.

The Lady Wildcat sophomore rolled games of 235, 178, 179, 192, 206 and 167 to win the No. 3 seed going into match play. Ploof emerged as the No. 1 seed for the bracketed competition.

Urben last year as a freshman finished 22nd in the state individual tournament. She and her Lady Wildcat teammates ended their regular season by taking fourth in the Division 2 regionals and were rated No. 5 in the state.
