Special presentation on elections offered May 16

The Allegan County Democrats will be host to Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, May 16, for an informative evening, “Defending Democracy” in the Windsor Woods Community Room, 1135 West Superior St., Wayland.

Byrum is serving her third term as Ingham County Clerk, acting as the county’s chief elections officialfor one one of the most populous counties in Michigan. Byrum has successfully conducted 25 elections, four union elections and was one of only a handful of county clerks to complete the 2016 presidential recount.

Since 2016, Byrum has been credentialed as a Certified Elections/Registration Administrator by Election Center, the only national program of continuing professional education that specializes in elections administration and voter registration. She served on Election Center’s Security Task Force in 2017.

Byrum currently serves on Michigan’s Election Security Commission, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s team of advisors tasked with strengthening and better securing elections in the state.

After the presentation there will be an opportunity for attendees to provide suggestions for the Allegan County Democratic Party in preparation for upcoming campaigns and community work.

  1. I’m curious how much she knows about how her family tried to hijack the Michigan Constitution in 2008. I’m normally pretty middle-of-the-road, especially in today’s political landscape. But when politics becomes the family business, I automatically suspect the intent.
