The splash pad, the popular city park attraction that opened a year ago in Wayland, will be ready to go for its second season Friday, May 26.

City Manager Tim McLean, who made the announcement Monday night at the City Council meeting, said the hours will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily.

Dressing rooms at the rest rooms also will be available later this year.

In other business at Monday’s meeting, the council:

  • Received an offer from Bob Genther to purchase 11.5 acres along Reno Drive at 1065 133rd Ave. Genther has offered $10,332 for the property, but council tabled the matter until a purchase agreement is brought forward.
  • Accepted the resignation of Assessor Dar VanderArk for health reasons. Luke Freeman has been assisting him in the job for the past year and has earned the proper credentials. He was approved as interim assessor and the job will be posted in the meantime.
  • Scheduled a public hearing on the 2017-18 budget for 7 p.m. Monday, June 19.
  • Was told the annual Main Street celebration this year will be held Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15. Director Ingrid Miller said Boy Scout groups and National Honor Society members this weekend will be working on beautifying the downtown and there are plans to install a rain garden.
