State Police urge sensible celebrations of holiday season

With the holiday season approaching, Michigan State Police from the Wayland post are encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly in use of alcohol.

If your holiday involves alcohol, designate a sober driver before your celebration begins. In addition, party hosts are asked to make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol endangers everyone, from the driver to the passengers, to other people on the road,” said Trooper Cecil Vashaw. “For safety sake, please don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking.”

To reduce traffic crashes and fatalities this holiday, law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers. In addition, officers will be making sure motorists obey traffic laws including using a safety belt and following speed laws.

“The holidays are a time to enjoy gatherings with friends and family,” said Trooper Cecil Vashaw. “Together, we can make sure everyone celebrates safely.”
