Steeby Elementary students raising ‘Pennies for Patients’

Steeby Elementary School is holding a Pennies for Patients fund-raiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. One student in particular is Kaylin Shorter, daughter of Melissa DeGood and Ken Shorter, a second-grader in Kelly Fortier’s class. A family friend of Kaylin’s donated bags and bags of returnable cans. Kaylin then spent part of her evening this week at Meijer returning all the cans. She brought back to the classroom $53 in cash — all to help others. “Kaylin has such a big heart,” said Fortier. “She really is an inspiration and great example for others.” The fund-raiser will continue through March 29.
