The summer “Funtastic” free 
meals and special programs for children series continues for its second week Monday through Friday, June 12-16.
The schedule of special events for the week are:
- Monday, June 15 — Dorr Library, Cape Making, Summer Reading Kickoff. Create your own superhero cape (all ages) and start creating your own superhero. Library hours are noon to 8 p.m.
Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 16 — 10 a.m. at Steeby Elementary. Henika Library is bringing Master Arts Story Theater with audience participation. The presentation will be performed in the style of medieval street theater. Free books will be distributed to first 100 students.
Lunch will be from 11 to 11:30 p.m.
- Thursday, June 18 — 10 a.m. at Steeby Elementary for United Bank Plant Day! Pot your own flower, herb or vegetable and watch it grow all summer!
Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
“The “Summer Fanatastic Series” is sponsored by Wayland Union Schools, Chartwells, Clark Hill, GRBS, Northern Physical Therapy, Reno Agency, Triangle Construction and United Bank and partner locations Dorr Township Library, Henika Library, Saw Mill Estates on Reno Drive, New Life Church, Voice of Hope Church, Gun Lake Community Church, Wayland United Methodist Church and United Church of Wayland as a way to provide nutrition to young people in the community while schools are not in session.
Wayland Schools Finance Director Bill Melching and Food Service Director Sarah Parr came up with a program that is open to all children, but targets Steeby and Baker elementaries, which the state has indicated have more than half their children receiving free or reduced price lunches.
- Monday, June 15 — Breakfast at Steeby Elementary from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Lunch at Steeby Elementary and Saw Mill Estates from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Lunch at Dorr Township Library from noon to 12:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 16 — Lunch at Steeby Elementary and Saw Mill Estates from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, June 17 — Breakfast at Steeby Elementary from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Lunch at Steeby Elementary and Saw Mill Estates from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
- Thursday, June 18 — Lunch at Steeby Elementary and Saw Mill Estates from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
- Friday, June 19 — Lunch at United Church of Wayland from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
Adults may purchase lunch for $4.
