Summertime reading service is on the move in Martin

by Austin Marsman

Martin Public Schools has teamed up with the JC Wheeler Library to provide a mobile library for children in the community. From early reading to chapter books, all readers will find something at their level and interests.

Karen Andrews is what you might call a “mobile librarian.” She has been working in education for more than 20 years and now serves as the head of the Brandon Elementary Title 1 program.

“It is a way to reach some of our kids who might not have access to books,” said Andrews. “It’s also a way for us to show that we care about them… and keep connected over the summer.”

The Clipper Band trailer makes stops at area mobile home communities every Wednesday. Mobile library visits will continue throughout the summer, and so will the reading adventures.
