Area meterologists have reported that the high temperature above 70 degrees in West Michigan represented the first time in recorded history the mercury has risen to that level in February. The balmy temps prompted Wayland Middle School eighth-graders to take their instruments outside to practice at the middle schoool. As is typical too often in Michigan, the warm weather was expected to crash, with temps falling quickly from 70 to the 20s in less than 12 hours overnight.
