Senior pitcher Mallory Teunissen and the Wayland girls’ softball team Friday doubled their pleasure and doubled their fun.
No, they didn’t appear in a Wrigley’s Doublemint gum commercial, but Teunissen hurled two perfect games against Comstock Park and the Lady Wildcats defeated the Panthers twice by identical 15-0 scores in a doubleheader.
It’s been a perfect week for Teunissen, a four-year starter on the mound for coach Cheri Ritz’s Wayland squad, which this week was elevated to the No. 1 slot in the latest state-wide Associated Press Class B poll. She also was perfect Tuesday against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
Leading the Cats offensively were Hannah Sikkema, Cait Bronson and Sydney Urben.
The Lady Wildcats improved their record to 14-1. They will be at home Saturday morning at 8, starting with a visit from Cedar Springs and afterward by Lake Odessa Lakewood.
