An ice storm Wednesday night and into Thursday morning wreaked havoc with travel and closed all area schools, turning pavement into a skating rink. Kenny Ritz of Wayland was on the US-131 expressway and reported that south bound south of Wayland was down to one lane and traffic backed up to the Dorr exit. Though area schools shut down Thursday morning, Hopkins and Wayland announced that all of their athletic events Thursday afternoon and evening would be held because road conditions had improved markedly.
