Three council candidates to be interviewed Monday

The Wayland City Council will conduct interviews of three candidates for the sat vacated by Tracy Bivins. The special meeting will get under way at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The candidates are Jeff Salisbury, Joseph Kramer and Abe Garcia.

Bivins announced her resignation in May for personal reasons and her last meeting was June 16. Whomever is appointed to be her successor will serve the remainder of her unexpired term until after the Nov. 6 general election. The appointee and anyone else is eligible to see election to a full two-year term in the general election.

Salisbury is a retired government, history and journalism teacher at Wayland High School  from 1985-2009. He served one four-year term on the Wayland Board of Education and at one time was a member of the Wayland City Planning Commission and the Henika Library Boared before being appointed to the City Council by then mayor Dave Miller.

Kramer has been a longtime local resident and supporter of the school system and its athletic programs and is perhaps best known as an emergency medical technician for Wayland Area Emergency Medical Services.

Garcia is a relative newcomer, but has served two years asa a member of the Wayland City Planning Commission and is a frequent visitor at City Council meetings.

The council will conduct a paper ballot election during the regular meeting, which will start at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both the special and regular meetings.
