Three former Laheadshot_2_Obetts_Haley5dy Wildcat softball standouts are on the roster of the Davenport University squad this spring.

The trio of Wayland High School graduates, who all played for Cheri Ritz, are junior Haley Obetts, sophomore Samantha Merren and freshman Mallory Teunissen.

Obetts started in 46 games last year as a sophomore, and had 31 hits to finish the season with a .301 batting average, while posting a .426 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage. She had a .987 fielding percentage at first base and was named Academic All-WHAC and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete.

Merren is an outfielder and baserunning specialist. She scored 10 runs as a freshman in 2015 and stole a base.

She’s already pitched for the Panthers this season during a southern swing. She was involved in a no-decision in her debut and picked up the mound win in her other outing, walking one, striking out 11 and yielding only one earned run. Her earned run average over two games is 1.27.
