Three Hopkins girls place in top 10 at Coach B Invite

The Hopkins girls’ cross-country team had a pretty good day Monday at the annual Coach B Yankee Springs Invitational, taking second in the Kellogg Division.

The Lady Vikings had three place among the top 10 with sophomore Helena Kerber third in 21:28.39, freshman Kambria Moored fifth and sophomore Jaeden Harshberger ninth. Hopkins’ 48 points was 20 back of an outfit called “GR FIRE.”

Neveah Helderop was 11th and Abigail Zalis 25th to round out the scoring.

Meanwhile, Wayland junior ace Olivia Barabas checked in sixth with a five-kilometer time of 20:49.95 to lead a Wildcat squad that finished fifth in the Thornapple Division. Sophomore Elliot Antel was 28th, senior Hannah Smith 29th, Mackenzie VanderWeide 43rd and junior Emily Tuinstra 50th.

The Wayland boys captured fourth place in the boys’ Thornapple Division race. Devin Weaver was 12th in 17:46.76, Isaac Dyer 21st, Travis Koon 24th, freshman Dylan Pallett 29th and Henry Oudbier 31st.

Caledonia won the race with a perfect score of 15 by copping all of the first five places.

Senior Adam Ball crossed the finish line fourth for Hopkins in 19:08, to pace the Vikings’ third place effort among three teams. Caleb Beilby was 14th, frshman Kenyon Katje 18th, Nathan Onderlinde 20th and freshman Ryan Williams 21st.
