Timothy (TJ) Restau has been hired as new assistant principal and athletic director at Wayland Middle School.
He succeeds Robyn Robinson, who has moved to the dean of students post at Pine Street Elementary.
Restau has more than 25 years of educational experience, the majority at Wyoming Public Schools as a teacher, supervisor and assistant principal. He was assistant principal at Newhall Middle School in Wyoming from 2004-2009 and assistant principal at Wyoming Park High School and Wyoming High School after Wyoing Park and Wyoming Rogers merged from 2010 to 2015.
Besides his educational experience, he has an extensive coaching background, the majority at Wayland Union Schools. From 1989 to 1994 he coached football at the freshmen, JV and varsity levels and from 1994 to 2003 and coached jayvee basketball as well.
Restau also was an assistant varsity football coach at Hopkins from 1998 to 2000, helping Rex Weaver guide the Vikings to a state runner-up finish in 1999 and was assistant varsity basketball coach at Wyoming Park from 1992 to 1994.
He currently officiates football and basketball at both the high school and collegiate level.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me and my family being hired in as the assistant principal and athletic director at Wayland Middle School,” said Restau. “Prior to our moving to Caledonia we lived in and started our family here from 1994 to 2012. My first teaching assignment began at the Middle School in 1988, when I was hired in for a long term sub position. The opportunity to come full circle in your career and return back home to a school and community where we have established so many wonderful relationships and fond memories is extremely exciting and surreal. I look forward to proudly serving the kids, parents and community of Wayland for many years.”
