TK bowlers give Wildcats 2 shellackings on the lanes

It was a bad day at the Hastings Bowl Tuesday, as both the Wayland High School boys’ and girls’ varsity teams too a beating from Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

“I thought our ladies would sweep our conference this year and that TK would be our toughest match,” said coach Eric Bottrall. “Our ladies didn’t come with a ready mindset this afternoon and TK did.”

The Lady Wildcats missed a lot of spares against a veteran team that has a quality team with four seniors.

Bella Harnish took both her points this afternoon. High game was had by Bella as well with a nice 201.

“Our girls have some work to do at practice this week as we were soundly defeated 28-2,” the coach remarked.

The boys lost to a very talented TK team as well. The Trojans nearly averaged 200 as a team and, as coach Sherry Milkusicak pointed out, “We don’t have any male player averaging that high, so it was a tough match… We saw a little more oil than we were used to and those old fashioned, long ball returns are always a challenge when shooting at the 10-pin spares.

Tyler Omness was welcomed to the team, joining from the basketball team and will be helping the Wildcats bowlers out when he is able. He is the son of former girls’ coach Mike Omness.

The Wayland boys managed 3 points to TK’s 27. Max Oosterhouse took his point in a close match, winning by just three pins. Alan Beggs took his point with a fine game of 192. Mark Musgrave took his point in game two with a 172 game.

“Our boys didn’t bowl terribly, we were just beaten by a much better team,” Miklusicak said.
