Top academic WHS Class of 2020 grads announced

Wayland Union Schools has announced its top academic graduates for the Class of 2020, with grade point averages of 4.0 and higher (Summa Cum Laude)

• Jamie Murray will attend the University of Michigan this fall.  She was a member of the National Honor Society, GSA, Forensics and Debate Team.

• Joshua Hall plans to attend Central Michigan University and major in meteorology.  He was a member of the National Honor Society and WUHS Band.  He played soccer for three years and golf for one year.

• Amanda VanHeesnplans to attend Grand Rapids Community College this fall and transfer to Grand Valley State University to study nursing/pre-med. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Eco Club, SADD and MAP.

• Jacob Jelsema will attend Grand Rapids Community College this fall with plans to transfer to Grand Valley State University to study engineering. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Band.  Jacob ran cross country for two years.

• Emily Bolthouse plans to attend Central Michigan University in the fall. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Eco Club, FAC Stage Crew and SADD.

• Ian Russell will attend Grand Valley State University to study mechanical engineering.  He was a member of the National Honor Society, the WUHS FIRST Robotics Team, and played in Orchestra.  He ran cross country for four years.

• Julia Annable plans to continue her education after high school, but is undecided on where she will attend. While attending high school Julia was a member of the WUHS Band, Eco club, SADD and stage crew.

• Macy Beck plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College in the fall and transfer to Grand Valley State University to study health information management.  She was a member of the National Honor Society and the CATZ Den Crew.  She played volleyball for four years and basketball for two years.

• Nicole Cazala plans to attend Central Michigan University to study elementary education. She was a member of the National Honor Society and played in the Marching and Symphonic Band. She was on the Competitive Dance Team from Dorr Dance Academy.

• Collin Heavner plans to attend Michigan State University to study electrical engineering.  He was a member of the Student Council and the WUHS FIRST Robotics Team.

• Sarai Yanes plans to attend Eastern Michigan University this fall.  She was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Symphony Strings, Catz Den Crew and PALS.  She played basketball for two years.

• Rylee Cronkright will attend Aquina College this fall to study health sciences and will run cross country and Ttack.  While at WUHS she was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the cross country and track teams for four years.

• Ashlee Kidder plans to attend Grand Valley State University to obtain a master’s degree in social work. After college she would like to become a child life specialist within a hospital setting. While at WUHS she was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, PALS, SADD, Pro Youth Team and Forensics.

• Elizabeth Ketchum – Elizabeth plans to attend college this fall, but is undecided.

• Linda Chlebana plans to attend Michigan State University to study biochemistry.  While at WUHS she was a member of SADD and the Eco Club.

• Mikayla Hubert will attend Albion College to study pre-meterinary Medicine and will be on the IHSA Western Equestrian Team. She was a member of the National Honor Society, PALs, and Orchestra. She was on the equestrian team for four years.

• Dawson Merice will attend Grand Valley State University to study engineering. While at WUHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Marching Band, Symphonic Band and the Robotics Team. He was on the varsity tennis team for two years.
