A tornado siren went off in downtown Wayland and in other local communities just after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Indeed, a tornado warning had been issued by the National Weather Service, but the twister was spotted moving northeastward on the west side of Allegan County, well away from Wayland, Hopkins and Martin. The warning was called off quickly afterward.
