Tribe sets mobile Covid-19 vaccination unit ceremony

Representatives of the Gun Lake Tribe and Allegan County will take part in a donation ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday to begin operation of the county’s mobile Covid-19 vaccination units.

The ceremony will be held at the Gun Lake Tribe Public Safety Garage, 2872 Mission Drive, Shelbyville. Social distancing practices will be enforced.

The COVID-19 mobile vaccination unit was purchased by Allegan County Health Department with $500,000 in CARES Act funds donated by Gun Lake Tribe in October 2020. The Tribe donated to several local schools and the County of Allegan to assist in mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic.  The donations came from the Tribe’s Coronavirus Relief Fund pursuant to the federal CARES Act.

Eleven local schools received $25,000 each while Allegan County received $225,000 to purchase a mobile vaccination unit that will provide area residents with a COVID-19 vaccine once available to the public.
