Representatives from the Gun Lake Tribe of Potawatomis will present checks Wednesday morning to Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit and Wayland Fire Department at the Luella Collins Community Center, 419 126th Ave., Shelbyville.

The donation to the sheriff’s department will be made to purchase a new K-9, named “Thor.”  The ACSD’s K-9 Unit will demonstrate skills acquired by the dogs in training academy in drills such as search and rescue, locating a lost child and identifying illegal substances.

The donation to the Wayland Fire Department will be made for the purchase of a new LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System. Fire Department personnel will give a demonstration of how helpful this device is to firefighters responding to cardiac emergencies. The WFD will become only the second agency in the area to have access to a LUCAS 3.

Representatives of the Tribal Council, Gun Lake Casino, Allegan County Sheriff’s Department and Wayland Fire Department will make remarks about the importance of working together to enhance public safety services in Allegan County.
