Davenport University has transitioned successfully into NCAA Division II basketball and two big reasons are two freshman players who prepped at Wayland High School.
The Panthers are 7-2 overall and they defeated Grand Valley 66-55 Saturday to move to 2-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Freshman point guard Avery Hudson, son of Wayland head coach Mike Hudson, is averaging 11.3 points per game. Teammate Zack Nieuwkoop, a 6-7
freshman, has averaged 4.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Both were four-year starters for Wayland and they were part of two district tournament champions and one regional titlist.
