Two WHS girls, 1 guy to bowl in state finals

Louie Harnish will represent Wayland, along with Brooke Trumbull and Haven Baker in the singles competition in the MHSAA bowling tournament by qualifying in fourth place in regionals. The threesome will compete at state next Saturday,

In order to make it to state finals, bowlers had to finish in the top seven places.

Harnish rolled 212, 195, 222, 169, 188, and 179.

Wil Dewing was second bowler for Wayland and he missed the cut by just 10 pins with scores of 197, 194, 180, 155, 200, and 155.

The Wildcats No. 1 bowler, Kyle VanEss, had a bit of an off day. 

“Being one of the best bowlers in the house comes with a lot of pressure and everyone can have an off day,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “It is just really tough to see that happen.  He missed by just 42 pins over six games. “

Jayse Henkel was right in or near the cut all day as well.  He looked like he would be in it until later in the day.  His games of 181, 179, 166 , 221, 124 and 161 put him in 20th place.

Dominik Baker rolled 149, 193, 154, 137, 154 and 178 which earned 30th place.

Wayland’s sixth bowler was Raynie Arendsen who came in 50th out of 74 bowlers today..

Haven was tied for first after the six games with a score of 1106 with Emilee Nowicki of Forest Hill Eastern. These two ladies had to have a one game rolloff and Haven fell a few pins short with a match total of 177 to 181.

“It was an amazing moment as the whole house got to watch this great match,” said coach Eric Bottrall. Brooke Trumbull will join Haven in the State finals in singles as she qualified sixth with a six-game total of 951

All Wildcat boys and girls will bowl for the Wayland boys’ team next weekend.
