Two Wayland High School seniors Saturday earned berths in the state Division 2 individual bowling tournament at Plymouth Canton.

Sydney Urben was runner-up in the regional tourney at Continental Lanes and Marissa BruinsSlot finished seventh among the 89 competition. The top 10 earn the right to bowl at state, and this will be Urben’s third trip to the big dance. She was state runner-up two years ago as a sophomore.

Urben knocked down 1,146 pins in six games with scores of 201, 180, 182, 175, 201 and 198. Her total 51 pins behind regional champion Alyssa VanWormer of Coldwater.

BruinsSlot came up with scores of 201, 203, 185, 165, 158 and 159 to finish with a total of 1,071.

Lady Wildcat Jessica Henerson just missed qualifying, taking 15th place with 1,008 pins, including a fine 213 performance in her sixth and last game. Mickayla Konecny was 18th with 986, including a 202 in her last game.

MacKenzie Banas was 29th and Amber Beggs 34th.

The two qualifiers took a little sting away from yet another fourth-place finish Friday as a team in the regionals by the Lady Wildcats, thereby just missing a trip to state.

For the boys’ team, Dillon Smith was 14th with 1,163 pins, highlighted by a 194, 191, 212 and 196. Dylan Roberts finished 22nd with a total of 1,122, featuring a 209, a 213 and a 235.
