Two local officials apply for Road Commission seat

Pam Brown

Pam Brown of Watson Township, James Rybicki of Wayland Township and Ken Rutgers are three applicants for a vacant seat on the Allegan County Road Commission.

The seat being vacated is that of Bruce Culver of Otsego, whose term expired Dec. 31. The other members of the Road Commission are Robert Kaarlie of Allegan and John Kleinheksel of Hamilton.

Brown was Watson Township Supervisor for one four-year term before she lost in the November general election to Kevin Travis. Rybicki currently is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for Wayland Township.

Allegan County Commissioner Don Black told the Martin Township Board of the opening Wednesday night and said he personally endorses Rybicki because of his background in engineering and now is retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation.

However, he added that he has been impressed with Brown as well, noting she played an important role in getting Watson and Martin townships together to do improvements and paving for 12th Street.

“Twelfth Street wouldn’t have gotten done if she wouldn’t have spoken up,” he said.

A decision on the appointment for a six-year term is expected later this winter.
