Three local track stars 1st in indoor meet

Two track stars from Wayland and another from Hopkins captured fist place honors at the annual Aquinas College Indoor meet Tuesday.

Surprising no one, Wildcat junior Evie Mathis cleared 11-0, winning by two feet higher than the runner-up. She also claimed 10th place in the long jump. Another Wildcat champion was Adam Huff, who was state champion in 2024 in the shot put.

Hopkins junior Kellen Ford took all the marbles in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07 seconds.

Other notable performances at the meet included:

Wayland’s Gwen Howard 4-8, fifth in high jump.

Hopkins freshman Peyton Harshberger, eighth in high jump, 4-5.

Hopkins junior Riley Homrich, fourth in 60-meter dash, 8.01. Hopkins sophomore Megan Brogger 12th, junior Ellarie Baugh, 13th, in 60 meters.

Senior Kambria Moored, fifth, 60-meter hurdles, 9.74. Soph Andrea Brower 10th.

Moored, Navaya Ingle, Ellarie Baugh and Riley Homrich, fifth, 800 relay, 1:54.4. Wayland 15th with Ella Edwards, Quinn Reeder, Ayva Mulder and Kennedy Jasinski.

Bre Hoogeind, Ella Holmes, Mikayla Lenhart and Ashlee Seesaw, seventh in 3200-meter relay, 11:22.06.

Landen Dunahoo of Wayland finished eighth in the 60-meter dash.

Hopkins junior Jack Estelle was third in 800-meter run, 2:06.05. Zachary Keena was sixth and Xander Stepek seventh for Wayland.

Wayland senior Dylan Pallett finished 10th in the 1600-meter run in 4:54.65. Sophomores Mason Fein and Alberto Mandujando were 16th and 17th, respectively.

Hopkins Junior Clayton Kerber was third in 60-meter hurdles in 9.0 seconds.

Wayland’s Jake Reeder, Henry Maass, Chance Lenhart and Alex Hubbard, hooked up for a seventh in the 800 relay, 1:40.11.

Wildcats Dyland Pallett, Xander Stepek, Maurgan Howard and Breslin Vandenbos, crossed the tape in 8:42 in the 3200 relay, finishing fourth.

Wayland senior Carter Marquard was fifth in the high jump, 5-10.

Hopkins freshman Luke Klinge took eighth in pole vault, 11-0 and Jackson Byers was 15th.Jacob Helder was fifth in the open 400. Josh Maule and Keilah Bonga were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Lillian Dewey was eighth in the 1600.

Justin Springs, Wayland sophomore, took sixth in long jump at 20-03. Hopkins sophomore Parker Warners, leaped 18-09, 16th. Brock Wheeler was 25th and Zac Wierenga 28th.
