Two Wayland High School girls’ sport coaches have won special accolades recently.

Wildcat boys’ and girls’ varsity tennis coach Bill Schaefer was named by the United Veteran’s Council of Kent County as the 2016 Veteran of the Year. The announcement was made Thursday.

Meanwhile, varsity girls’ golf coach Chris Drew was being named Division Three Coach of the Year in Michigan. Drew’s Wildcats shot a school record 167 in a match earlier this fall and they just missed qualifying for the state tournament for the second year in a row by three strokes.

Drew also coaches the boys’ golf team in the spring.
