Blake Dunn only played the first half against Martin Friday, but he made the most of his limited time on the field. Dunn scored on runs of 50, 51, 53 and 61 yards and threw touchdown passes of five and 25 yards as Saugatuck rolled over Martin 60-0.
Actually, the talented senior did play a little in the third quarter. Just 11 seconds to be exact. That is the time it took for him to take the second half kickoff and return it 79 yards for a touchdown.
Dunn finished with 291 yards rushing, 60 passing and 117 return yards on the night. After his TD return on the kickoff, Dunn only entered the game one more time, to kick the extra point after Noah O’Shinski scored as time expired in the third quarter.
Saugatuck scored once in the fourth quarter, also, as Keegan Carper scored on the last play of the game with the running clock in motion. Dunn came in to take a knee to end the nightmare for the Clippers.
Martin took the game’s opening kickoff and six plays later punted it away. It took Dunn exactly one play, a 51-yard run, to put the Indians up 6-0. His extra point kick was wide left.
On the next series, Martin fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Carper recovered for the Indians. It took Dunn two plays to score in that series, a nine-yard pass to Jackson Shriver and a 50-yard run around and through the Martin defense. There was still 7:27 left on the clock.
It took only three minutes and 17 seconds for Dunn to score again, this time on a five-yard pass to Shriver. This time his kick was successful and it was 21-0.
With 18.9 seconds left in the first quarter, Dunn threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to his brother Bradley and when his extra point kick was blocked it was 27-0 going into the second period.
The next time Saugatuck got the ball it took only three plays before Dunn broke free from 53 yards out to make it 33-0. When Dunn broke free for a 61-yard touchdown run with 2:24 left in the first half, the score was 40-0 and the running clock was on.
Dunn started the second half off by returning the kickoff 79 yards and then kicked the extra point to make it 47-0.
O’Shinski’s 18 yard touchdown with 23 seconds left in the quarter made it 54-0 and Carper capped the scoring with his 25-yard TD with 1:35 left in the game.
Saugatuck finished the night with 505 total yards. Martin had 91 Iota! yards. The Indians scored on every possession except when Dunn took a knee to end the first half.
With the victory, Saugatuck is 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Valley Division of the Southwest Athletic Conference. Martin is 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Valley Division.
In other division action, Decatur beat Bloomingdale 26-0 and Marcellus beat Eau Clair 38-24.
Next week the Clippers will be host to Eau Claire for Homecoming.
