The Hopkins girls’ basketball season came to an end Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the Class B district tournament at Paw Paw High School.
The Lady Vikings were suffocated by undefeated Plainwell in a 36-16 defensive-minded verdict and finished their campaign with an overall record of 7-15. The seven victories was they most they’ve had in the last four seasons.
Plainwell, now 21-0 and ranked No. 10 in the last Class B regular season state-wide Associated Press poll, did not allow Hopkins to score more than six points in any of the four quarters. The Trojans led at the period stops, 13-6, 18-9 and 28-14.
It was the second time the Trojans have defeated Hopkins this season.
Sarah Morrell led Plainwell with 16 points and Martyna Pioro contributed 14. The Trojans will play in the district finals Friday night against either Otsego or Paw Paw.
Ellen Bregg led the Lady Vikings with five points.
