United Church of Wayland plans ‘lock-in, campout’ Saturday, Feb. 28

A winter youth lock-in is b10341560_10152456874894771_8666173993257319144_neing planned for for 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 to noon Sunday, March 1.
Gabe and Ashlyn Kerley are organizing the lock-in for children between the ages of 5 and 18. They are welcomed and encouraged to bring a friend who does not attend United Church.
The theme is “Winter Camping.” Those who have a tent that can be set up without stakes are asked to bring it along (The church has a few extras).  They will be set up in the fellowship hall. An Alaska-style picnic, cooking hot dogs and making s’mores over a campfire out in the snow will be held (bring warm clothes!)  There will be games indoors and out, there will be crafts and art activities to do, and there will be a movie to enjoy. At some point, the tents will be for sleeping .
On Sunday morning the kids will participate in the service by presenting an art project they worked on during the lock-in. They will also fill the rolls of greeters, ushers, liturgists, lay leaders, etc.
The church is seeking donations of $10 to cover the cost of food and supplies, ($15 a family), but this is just a suggestion, not a requirement.

“Gabe and Ashlyn Kerley said they would prefer not to have anyone feel excluded because of the cost, so please understand this is just a free-will donation, especially in the case of friends who are not part of our church,” said a church spokesperson.
Those interested in taking part are asked to contact the church at (269) 792-2155 so church personnel understand how many to plan for. Bring a sleeping bag or blankets and pillow: optional, a pad or air mattress to sleep on; tent if you have one (one that doesn’t use stakes to set up); pajamas; winter coat, boots, gloves, hats, scarf, etc., and a change of clothing for Sunday morning.
