The new used car deimg_20161018_094714963alership that reopened a couple of months ago in downtown Wayland suddenly had no vehicles for sale this morning. There also were reports a surveying crew was at the site this afternoon. After Woody Woodcox bought the former Wayland Motor Sales used car business from Nick Oetman, the dealership was re-named “Recar Nation.” The firm managing the local business, located at 159 N. Main St., at the corner of Maple Street, also ran a used car dealership in Martin. There have been reports that a a firm from Plainwell has bought out the business. They are probably selling/buying vehicles at the auto auction. Nothing new. Maybe he's going out of business? Why would anybody care one way or the other? It's his business, he can do what he wants with it.

Absolutely, it is their business, and they are free to do whatever they want with it, as long as it does not encroach on the rights of others: beyond what the law provides anyway. Yet I for one care! I support local and every time a business leaves town so does the business that would have been conducted there. If I recall correctly, I have read several times that for every dollar spent local, 62% stays local. We have several vacant businesses buildings in our downtown, and I for one would love to see them occupied by thriving businesses that would contribute to the local economy, helping our town remain economically attractive and prosperous. So please have a great day, support local business and care.

Virgil, I agree with your assertions regarding losing businesses and open store fronts downtown. The reason there are so many empty buildings is: 1) There is no viable amount of traffic/foot traffic and poor parking options if there are cars occupying the low number of spaces available. 2) Many people live in Wayland, but neglect to shop there. 3) The buildings are old and only provide limited space to display items for sale and to have customers in any large numbers. I do most of my business in town if they offer what I need. I wish others would also. Wayland merchants deserve our support.
