Vehicle strikes pole, suspects flee, power outages result

A vehicle struck a pole near the Rabbit River Estates mobile home park just outside the City of Wayland Sunday morning, causing traffic rerouting and power outages. The two young men inside the vehicle exited and were not at the scene when police and fire authorities arrived. There were believed to have escaped on foot and authorities and tracking dogs were seen working along East Superior Street and near the mobile home park. Power finally was restored and the vehicle will be impounded. The suspects remain at large. East Superior 135th Ave was closed from Marlo Lane to Apollo Drive in the City to 7th Street in Wayland Township. The Yankee Springs Township Fire Department said it was a stolen vehicle and two subjects were seen running from the crash just after it happened.
