Vehicle thefts rash continues in Dorr Twp.

A rash of vehicle break-ins continues to frustrate Dorr area households.

One Facebook poster said, “We’ve experienced three nights in a row of break-ins, and it’s clear these incidents are ongoing. Our vehicles were among the first targeted early Thursday morning. Several items were stolen. One item, which I didn’t initially realize was missing, appeared on one of my other devices, allowing me to track its location.

“I immediately contacted the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department. I spoke to dispatch and an officer who took my information and consulted her sergeant. His response? ‘We will not go up there—it’s too far (17 miles from Dorr) and with the police protests going on…’

“I then contacted GRPD. They said they could meet me at the location, but without a search warrant, all they could do was ‘keep the peace.’

“This is not about material things. This is about the violation of our town, our neighbors, our homes. Two of my kids were sleeping less than 20 feet from the thief who was ransacking our vehicles. Prescription drugs were stolen, likely being resold. Elderly residents are being affected. These criminals are becoming more comfortable and probably like the rush of getting away with it night after night.

“We all understand the importance of locking our cars and being cautious. But this isn’t just about precautions—it’s about the lack of action taken by those sworn to protect us. I even offered to hand over my phone to aid the investigation. Their response? Pretty much blame us for leaving items in our vehicles, in our driveways.

“We are appalled and disgusted by how this has been handled by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.”
