Verl Scott, 94, of Shelbyville, passes at Wings Home

Verl Abe Scott, age 94, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, April 11, at Wings Home in Allegan.

Verl was born in Bartlesville Okla., on July 21, 1922. He was the first of four sons born to James and Pearlie (Davis) Scott.

Verl trained and worked as an engineer but first and foremost he was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marines during World War II, assigned to PBJ Squadron VMB-614 on Kwajalein Island. Most recently, he joined and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Allegan branch.

He was preceded in death by Ruth Doezema, his partner of 42 years.

    A fine Marine, a Technical Sergeant, Radio Technician Who served in the South Pacific, in a Squadron of PBJ-1 Mitchel Bombers attacking Japanese shipping. A grateful nation thanks him for his service.
