The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ track teams Thursday both captured runner-up honors in the Bangor Relays.
The boys’ team scored 77 points, eclipsed only by Berrien Springs in the nine-team field. The Lady Vikings accumulated 95 points, only three points shy of winning the meet championship. Vicksburg won the nine-team competition with 98.
Two Hopkins boys’ relay teams won their events. The Sprint Medley, which included the 100-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, was won by Spencer Timm, Wyatt Stegeman, Anthony Steffens and Hayden Graczyk.
The other first-place Viking quartet was the 1600-meter or 4×400, made up Isaac Kukulies, Lennart Baldreich, Anthony Steffens and Jared Coad.
The Lady Vikings scored five first-place finishes for the day. The winners were:
- Discus Relay — Bailey Ballard and Shelby Henshaw.
- Shot Put Relay — Nicole Opolski and Shelby Henshaw.
- Distance Medley — which includes the 400, 800, 800 and 1600 — Megan Heft, Josie Freybler, Kennedy Miedema and Rachael Weber.
