Viking boys, girls go 2-1 again in Silver quad meet

Both the Hopkins girls’ and boys’ track teams Tuesday won two of three dual meets in a quad held at Comstock Park.

Hopkins girls defeated Comstock Park 67-55 and Kelloggsville 85-32, but lost 80-57 to Belding. The boys beat Comstock Park 95-40 and Kelloggsville 99-37, but dropped a 79-58 dual meet decision to Belding.

Adam Ball defeated all comers in the open 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.95. Sophomore Isaac ran a 17.80-second effort to win the 110-meter high hurdles andf teammate Nathan Onderlinde added a third. Mason Tomes, Josh Tew and Tanner Neuman went 1-2-3 in the shot put with Tomes’ toss of 43-11.5 winning the event. It was Tew, Tomes and Neuman at 1-2-3 in the discus, with Tew’s 117-03 taking top honors.

Logan Klinge cleared 10-0 to take the pole vault by a foot.

Trevor Shealy and Noah Corneille were second and third, respectively in the open 200. Onderlinde added a second place finish in the 300-meter imermediate hurdles.

Finishing second in the sprint relays were Klinge, Zander Hitzler, Corneille and Shealy in the 400, as did Klinge, Miles Gibson, Corneille and Shealy in the 800.

Lady Vikings freshman sensation Kambria Moored again had the best time of the day in 100-meter high hurdles at 17.35 seconds. She later came back to win the 300 hurdles in 52.51 seconds.

Moored, Sierra Emaus, Alex Jackson and Navaya Ingle turned in a fine 800 relay time of 2:03.22 to win that race by 15 seconds.

Grace Brenner continued her winning ways in the shot with a todss of 30-07.25.

Jaeden Harshbarger and Nevaeh Helderop finished second and third in the open 400-meter run for the girls.

Sophomore Vanessa Barry was second in the long jump and teammate Emaus was fourth.

Both the Viking boys’ and girls’ track squads now own 4-2 dual meet records in O-K Silver Conference competition, with only losses at the hands of Belding and Sparta.
